Nagu ikka, avastasin pulma minnes viimasel minutil, et selga panna pole midagi. Tuhnisin läbi oma kangakastid ja istusin masina taha, tulemuseks üks hädavajalik maani seelik.
As always I discovered at the last minute that I have nothing to wear for the wedding.. I went through my fabric stash and sat behind the sewing machine and ended up with this maxi skirt.
Jõulud on ammu unustatud ja aastagi on juba viis kuud vana. Siinse postitustiheduse järgi võiks arvata, et olen pool aastat käed rüpes istunud või hoopis õmblemise ja käsitööga lõpparve teinud (nagu seda tegin oma igapäeva tööga). Võin kinnitada, et seda ei ole juhtunud, hoopis vastupidi.. Töö voolab ustest-akendest sisse ja sai isegi sõbrannaga kahasse ettevõte loodud. Aga kõik mu isiklikumad tööd on ikka endiselt pooleli.. Mõni ootab pildistamist, mõnele on vaja varrukad külge õmmelda..
Well, a lot of time has passed.. The smell of Christmas has gone with snow and New Year has been here for over five months. I haven’t quitted sewing (like my job), quite the opposite. I started a firm with my friend and work has been pouring in. But all the projects close to me are sort of on hold. Some blouses need sleeves, others need hemming and photographing.
Need padjad paluti mul tikkida pulmakingiks. Viimati tikkisin mõned aastad tagasi ühe krae nurkadele. Kuigi aega nappis, siis sellisest mõnusast nokitsemisest on raske ära öelda, eriti veel nii ilusa sündmuse tarvis. Kuna eelmainitud krae tikkimine oli ühe kooliülesande osa, siis selle raames erinevaid tikandeid uurides jõudis White Work ehk valge tikand mulle eriti südamelähedaseks saada. Tegemist on tikandiga, kus tikkimisniit ja kangas, millele tikitakse (üldjuhul siis valge linane), on sama värvi. Esimene teadaolev selles tehnikas ese on Taanist pärit punutud juuksevõrk, mis leitud 3000 aasta vanusest hauast. Läbi ajaloo on kuningannad ja daamid, väikesed tüdrukud, teenijannad ja naiste kirikus valge tikandiga kaunistanud erinevaid asju erinevatel põhjustel. Näiteks paljudes riikides peeti noori tüdrukuid harimatuteks kui nad ei suutnud oma kümnendaks eluaastaks imeilusat valge tikandi pistetega proovilappi tikkida.

I was asked to make embroidered pillowcases as a wedding present. My last embroidery was in the corner of a collar and that was years ago. The collar was a school assignment and as I looked more closely into different embroideries I was really drawn to White Work. White Work embroidery refers to any embroidery technique in which the stitching is the same color as the foundation fabric (traditionally white linen). Whether the embroidery is composed of a few simple stitches or look like an elegant lace, the techniques are basically the same. Styles of White Work embroidery include most drawn thread work, broderie anglaise, Hardanger embroidery, Mountmellick embroidery and reticella. The oldest known piece that could be called White Work is a Danish braided hairnet taken from a 3000-year-old grave. Throughout history queens and ladies, little girls, servants and women of the church executed their White Work embroidery on a variety of things and for a variety of reasons. Little girls in many countries and of most social classes were considered uneducated if they could not do a beautiful sampler of stitches by the time they were ten years old.
After first stitches I couldn’t stop, it’s so addictive.
See oli teine pulm minu elus. Hoopis teistsugune kui oleksin osanud aimata, tagasihoidlik ja äärmiselt südamlik. Selline, mis keskenduski kahe inimese abiellu astumisele, mitte polnud pidu sugulastele-sõpradele ja mõjus hoopis õigemini.. Paari kohtumislugu on äärmiselt tänapäevane, poiss on Eestist, tüdruk Austriast. Poiss vajas arvutimängu mängimisel abi, moderaatoriks olev tüdruk andis oma abikäe.
It was the second wedding I attended. And it was quite different from what I had heard or gotten used to. It was small, sweet and modest. The focus was on the couple and not a big party for all relatives and friends. They met through internet – the boy from Estonia needed help with a new computer game and the girl, as the moderator from Austria, lent a helping hand.
Esimene lumi on maha sadanud ja mina tikin soojas toas jõulukingitusi. Alustasin neid sellel aastal kuidagi varakult, sest jõulueelne sagin kulub mujalegi ära. Varbad said juba hommikul esimest tõsisemat külma tunda, niiet punased põsed ei ole ilmselt vaid pärlite tagaajamisest.
Et keegi kingisaajatest võib ka siia juhuslikult sattuda, siis paljastavamad pildid ilmuvad siia alles peale suuremaid pidustusi.
As I once said – winter comes with glitter and pearls. Well, this year it’s collars as well. The air has only started to get crispier and I have already started making my Christmas presents.. For once I wish I could avoid the panic and also enjoy the time prior to Christmas Eve.
As I’m afraid of one of the recipients stumbling upon this blog, I’ll just give you a sneak peak and share the original pictures of these gifts afterwards.
Pikalt olen otsinud ilusat gobeläänkangast, kuid poodi minnes olen pidanud pettuma. Lõpuks leidsin kanga, mis on päriselus ehk veel ilusamgi kui pildil. Et kanga muster kaotsi ei läheks, tegin temast kõige lihtsama pliiatsseeliku ja et lihtsusega lõpuni minna, õmblesin luku kõige lihtsamal kombel seeliku peale. Esimest korda sellist tehnoloogiat kasutades oli raske uskuda, et nii lihtsalt ja julmalt see just käibki.

I’ve been longing for a beautiful tapestry fabric and I finally got my hands on one. Many times I’ve found good looking tapestry fabrics online but been disappointed seeing them in person.. well, this one looks even better in real life! To let the fabric shine I decided to make a very simple skirt and ended up with a pencil skirt for a change. I was my first time sewing the visible zipper on top of the fabric like this. It was quite difficult to make something so simple for a change (not that sewing an invisible zipper is hard but the technology is different).

Kuigi vihmaga on tulnud ka juba rahet, olen ma endiselt veel sügistoonide lainel. Ja kuigi pole ma suuremat sorti punase armastaja, siis sel sügisel on pisut teisiti.. vaid kuldne imbub sisse nagu tavaliselt.
Although we’ve already had hail, autumn is still on my sewing plate. I have surprised myself as I’m not a big fan of red but it seems this year is a bit different.. only the gold tones are here as usual.
Lipsuga pluusi olin ikka tahtnud, aga need olid alati kas liiga massiivsed või lühikesed, mitte päris minu moodi.. Õmblesin selle pluusi käesoleva aasta varakevadel, kui olin veel musta ja kuldse lummuses. Ennast tundes, tean, et see aeg pole enam kaugel, kus need värvid koos tunduvad ainuõigetena.
Kui eelmisele pluusile leidsin nööbid juba enne pluusi tegemist, siis tundus, et sellele pluusile ma nööpe ei leiagi. Kõik variandid, mis koju tõin, ei sobinud pluusi ilmega kokku, tegid ta kuidagi odavaks või röövisid tähelepanu. Kui ma siis viimaks naljaviluks ka pärlikarbi lahti tegin leidsin sealt mõned hallist kampsunist järele jäänud kuldsed pärlid. Õmblesin need siis nööpide asemele ja nende alla läbipaistvad trukid. Nii jäi ära ka nööpukude tegemise vaev, mis niigi õrna kanga puhul oleks olnud parajaks peavaluks.
Kuna avarad pluusid annavad mingi salapärase vabaduse, siis laiuse juurde andmiseks on pluusil õlajoonel rida volte ning ka käeaugukaart on pisut süvendatud.
A blouse with a bow is what I’ve wanted for a long time but hadn’t find quite the right one, some were too big, others short.. I sewed this blouse early this spring, a time when I was fascinated by the combination of gold and black. Knowing my self – the time will come soon again.
If I had buttons for previous blouse before I had the idea, then this time buttons turned out to be a big problem.. I just couldn’t find the right ones! All the options I found made the blouse look cheap or grabbed too much attention. As I was looking through my pearls I found some leftover ones from the cardigan project. I sewed them instead of buttons and on the other side I sewed snaps. I was really happy with the solution because I didn’t have to mess with making buttonholes into this already delicate fabric.
To make the blouse wider it has some pleats on the shoulder line and the armholes are also deepened a bit.
Seeliku õmblesin juba kevade eel, kuid tunne on tal sügisesem, seepärast tõmbasingi kapsuni selga ning rändasin randa. Suve lõpus on vähesed seal, kõik on sügiseks valmistumas – moorivad asju purkidesse ja pudeleisse, jagavad saake omadevahel või ostavad vihikuid. Torkasin varbad liiva ning pildistasin need kuldsed lehed siis üles. Nii muuseas sai korjatud sealtsamast ka kibutvitsu, mida hiljem purki pista, sügise puhul.
I sewed this skirt a bit before spring but it feel more like autumn, so I put on my cardigan and went to the beach. Everyone have returned to their autumn business – jamming, harvesting or buying schoolbooks. I tipped my toes in the sand and photographed these golden leaves. Incidentally I ended up with a few rosehips to put in the jar myself, for autumns sake.
