Light blues

IMG_4724 1

If someone asked me to pick a garment that would best describe me, this would be it. This is me as a coat (:
I think this is because I've been dreaming of a light grey or pastel coat for over a year now and it has had a long time to form. So when the first hints of spring appeared, I pulled myself together and sat behind the sewing machine before it was too late. This project was all about befriending old enemies.
I wanted to achieve a round shoulder but still maintain the coat looking petite and not as if it had swallowed me (I all ready have a winter coat with that effect which I love as well). So I extended the shoulder line and shortened the sleeve cap.
I was also not sure if I wanted a collar or not. As I’m not on good terms with lapels I used it as an opportunity to try something new.
The main fabric is wool and lining is from white viscose that I decorated with dots using a black textile marker.

Lõppkokkuvõttes kujunes see projekt vanade vaenlastega sõbrunemiseks (:

I remember sewing this type of pockets as part of a school exam long time ago. It was so tricky and needed a lot of patients and precision that I swore I would never sew them again. Well, here I am, sewing these pockets.. I love the clean look and maybe my sewing skills have developed so I thought I'm ready to face them again. Here are some step-by-step photos of the process.

Mäletan, kuidas ma kooliajal nahast välja pugesin neid taskuid õmmeldes. Tegelikult on nende õmblemisel salarelvaks täpsus ja kannatlikkus. Tol ajal vandusin, et kuigi lõpptulemus on ilus ja puhas, käin neist kaarega mööda, kannatlikkusest polnud haisugi ja täpsuski andis soovida. Siin on mõned pildid seest-õmmeldud-peale-pandud taskute õmblemisest.

Pattern Magic vol.3 Hugger

IMG_2668

IMG_2680

I decided to call it “Hugger” because when I put it on a hanger it looks like it is ready to give you a massive hug. The pattern is constructed with the help of a book named Pattern Magic 3. For the fabric I chose sewn through wadding with a bit of wool. It’s very warm and used for outerwear but leaves small flakes everywhere so you can follow it like they do in fairytales..
I think I may use this pattern to make a wind jacket with a zipper in the front and maybe a hood, we’ll see.

Winter dress / Talve kleit

by Alice Olivia 2
I was inspired by this Alice + Olivia’s white tweed minidress. Well, inspired to say the least as I ended up copying it with minor adjustments - I dropped the collar, made the skirt part a bit more a-line (maybe not a great move) and not that mini. I used a cream white wool fabric in twill weave witch is usually more durable and drapes well. The lining is made from viscose. After all it is a winter dress.
(I apologize for the scared face on the photos, I was a bit cold)

Emergency!

How often do you get the chance to design work wear for ambulance? So we took a chance with a classmate and made this our final school project. I made a jacket and pants for women and she made the same set for men. I’m not sure how much I can talk about it, because the work is still in progress so I’m just posting some pictures to show you that I haven’t just been sitting around and talk about the project more when it’s finished.

kiirabi jope 5 Kahjuks pidin tegema tooted suuruses 50C ning selles suuruses modelli mul pildistamiseks käepärast polnud, seega pole ka jope piltidel kõige paremini eksponeeritud.
Tööriiete konstruktsioon ja tehnoloogia on suuresti erinev sellest, millega koolis oleme kokkupuutunud, mistõttu veetsime kursaõega ühe kuu Kiviõlis töörõivaste tehnoloogiaga tutvudes.
Nüüd jälle kleitide ja seelikute juurde!

Sadly I had to make it a size 50C and now I didn’t have a model big enough so the jacket seems a bit baggy.
Work wear is something so different from all the skirts and jackets I’ve made so far, construction and sewing wise. I spent a month studying the technology of it in a big sewing company specializing in work wear.
Now back to skirts and dresses!

Wednesday, September 19

as I'm secretly dreaming of autumn.. ehk hall sall

Every evening seems to be darker, it has even been raining more than appropriate for autumn. Every evening like this Päärus scarf tends to become longer and longer.. Maybe this will keep some of these sore throats away during the cold weather.
A brand new September has begun and so has a new school year, which means that the posts will be infrequent. This doesn’t mean that I will not be sewing, quite the opposite, most of my free time flies sewing by. I’m constructing and sewing a collection for my dear friend who is abroad and has to manage it from there.

A houndstooth check coat

Another school project that started in the darkest period of winter from patterns and ended up being worn in the cool spring.

From the inside:

Getting ready for the chills

Snoods.
Made one as white as snow. From 100% alpaka wool.
scan0002
The other one black. From 80% alpaka wool, 20% silk.
scan0004
For this snood I used a stitch from Vogue Knitting.

As I’m still waiting for the real snow, I found some pictures of last winter in the suburban district.

The view from our window.

Because I take most of my pictures with Zenit, I have to wait for half a year to see them. It could take less time but I just don’t take that much picures and a film usually holds 36 of them.
